The cost of living in a Phoenix senior living community varies depending on the type of community you choose.

Independent living communities typically have lower monthly fees than assisted living or memory care communities.

It’s important to note that amenities can vary from community to community, so be sure to ask about the specific amenities offered at each one.

What is the climate like in Phoenix?

The climate in Phoenix is hot and dry.

The average temperature year-round is around 80 degrees Fahrenheit, but it can get as high as 115 degrees in the summer.

What are the best neighborhoods to live in Phoenix?

There is no one “best” neighborhood to live in Phoenix.

It really depends on what you are looking for in a community.

What should be considered when choosing a senior living facility?

When choosing a senior living facility, there are several factors to consider:

  • Cost: the cost of each senior living facility will depend on the level of care required.
  • Location: you will want to consider location so that you can visit your loved one on a regular basis.
  • Size of community: you or your loved one may prefer a smaller or larger community depending on personal preference or individual care needs.
  • Level of care offered: the level of care will depend on the care requirements of you or your loved one.
  • Amenities offered: when looking at amenities offered, consider the level of activity and independence required.
  • Climate: depending on personal preference you or your loved one may prefer a warmer climate.
  • Neighborhoods: It may be important to stay in a neighborhood that is familiar to you or your loved one to avoid the upset of a major change in the environment. It’s comforting to reside near the usual hairdresser or a doctor that you come to know over the years.

It’s important to weigh all of these factors and find the right community for your individual needs.

Moving to a retirement community?

Here are four tips for an easier transition.

With time on your side, the idea of moving to a senior living community with a vibrant
lifestyle and helpful services feels liberating and inspiring. However, considering a move is a big step, how do you make the transition as easy as possible? Here are tips from the senior
living experts at Beatitudes Campus.

#1 Explore your options

Start by identifying your biggest considerations and preferences, including financial,
location, lifestyle, culture, and access to healthcare and assisted living. Then do your
research by visiting communities, talking to residents and staff, and asking lots of
questions. Look for ways to sort fact from fiction. Be sure to compare the advantages of
an entrance fee
versus the benefits of flexible, month-to-month renting and weigh them
against your goals and expectations.

#2 Seek guidance from experts

As you explore the possibilities, seek guidance and advice from trusted sources, including
your friends, family, financial advisor, tax accountant, and clergy, if applicable.
MyLifeSite, a web resource created by senior living expert and author Brad Breeding,
offers an excellent primer on the basics of retirement communities.

At Beatitudes Campus, we’ve helped thousands of older adults during retirement planning
to get the future they want. From our Cost Calculator to a personal assessment tool, you’ll
find various senior living resources designed to help you make the best decision
possible.

If you’re wondering when to make your move, check out our blog on timing your move. If
you’re like Marta and Tom Brooks and not ready to make a move just yet, Beatitudes
Campus’ future Promenade Residences could provide the right timing.

#3 Choose what you love

Just because you’re moving, your routines and hobbies shouldn’t have to change. As
you’re exploring retirement communities in Arizona, look for places that appeal to you.
Double-check that your top choices offer flexible dining so it’s easy for you to enjoy a
great meal with friends when and how you want and that you have access to a wide variety
of life-enriching programs, amenities, and activities for seniors.

In comparison, Beatitudes Campus offers multiple on-campus dining venues and some 100 activities,
special community events, programs and amenities every month. So if you like to learn and
expand your skills, check if the community provides lifelong learning opportunities.

#4 Plan ahead for moving day

Planning is the single best way to ensure an easy transition to a new retirement
community. At Beatitudes Campus, we make sure your moving day goes well by
partnering with Moving Station ® to bring you expert moving advice and coordination at no
cost. In addition, your Personal Relocation Manager is with you every step of the way to answer your questions and help you find trusted resources for selling your home for the best price,
organizing and downsizing, planning your move, and more.

If you’re ready to start planning, our Quick Start Senior Living Guide is an excellent
resource. It offers advice on setting your expectations and provides an overview of your
options, tips on how to plan your move, and more.

With a bit of planning, soon you could be enjoying retirement with a shorter to-do list,
easy, comfortable living, and fun and fulfilling activities close at hand. To learn more

55+ Communities and How They Benefit Seniors

Many people reach a point in their lives when their current home feels like a chore to maintain. Your neighborhood may start to feel too loud, children playing in the street may annoy you, and the lack of community spirit affects your day-to-day life. At this point, many 55+ individuals don’t require skilled care like an assisted living community or nursing home. Instead, 55+ communities bridge the gap for older adults. Here we define what 55+ communities are and how they benefit seniors.

Defining 55+ communities

Designed for older adults, 55+ communities (also known as senior lifestyle communities) don’t offer on-site medical treatment or personal care assistance. Instead, they provide a lifestyle adjustment for older adults looking to live independently. The main appeal for many is that you will be living amongst adults of similar age and typically the same lifestyle as yourself.

55+ communities handle exterior maintenance for residents. They may also offer assistance with some interior work, relieving pressure off individuals who feel that looking after their home has become too hard a task. In addition, adult communities are frequently outfitted with senior-friendly features like grab bars, single-floor living, and wheelchair access, resulting in residents feeling safe and comfortable, without the need to modify their homes.

The different types of 55+ communities

There are two main types of communities for 55+ adults, namely:

Senior apartments

Senior apartments are rental units restricted to adults over the age of 55. These dwellings usually have limited amenities, besides common areas for residents to socialize, or maybe even a fitness center. Nevertheless, the resultant close-knit living still encourages people to form friendships with neighbors. Moreover, it can motivate seniors to engage with others and create a network, for example, arranging transport for shopping trips or partaking in planned group outings.

Senior lifestyle communities

This type of community contains a mix of housing styles, from single-family homes to condos. Senior lifestyle communities may span over a large area instead of occupying a single building. They usually have recreational facilities such as pools and tennis courts, well-lit sidewalks, and wheelchair ramps. These units are typically larger than apartments and therefore attract a higher rental/ownership cost.

Is a 55+ Community a good fit for me?

If you want a low-maintenance way of life and think you would enjoy being surrounded by people of the same age, a 55+ community would be a good choice. If you don’t yet require personal care assistance, then this type of community is for you. However, like any decision in life, some pros and cons need to be investigated when making a significant lifestyle change. My Life Site has an in-depth look at The Pros & Cons of 55+ Active Adult Communities.

What amenities do 55+ communities provide?

Amenities at each senior lifestyle community differ. The most common ones are:

  • Social groups and clubs
  • Game room
  • Golf course
  • Tennis courts
  • Library
  • Clubhouse
  • Pool
  • Jacuzzi
  • Gym
  • On-site fitness classes

The cost of living in a 55+ community

Costing would resemble the average housing costs in the area, perhaps with added community fees. If you are assessing costs, look at the specific housing you are interested in, in the same area of your chosen community. (Condo, townhouse, apartment, or single-family home). The prices will be in the same region, excluding any community fees.

Takeaway

If you’ve decided to move into a 55+ community, do your research. It isn’t necessary to rush this decision as most adults interested in this lifestyle aren’t in an emergency situation and have the luxury of time. Instead, schedule tours with your favorite spots and speak with community representatives. It is also advisable to question current residents. It will help you determine if you fit in with other residents and determine what day-to-day life is like in the community.
